Lonestar Champions 6th Annual 24 Hour Soccer Marathon Fundraiser
The Lonestar Soccer Club is raising funds for youth soccer programs, including our very own Champions Foundation. This year, we are partnering with the STYSA organized group, TOPSoccer Program and The East Austin Soccer Club. The purpose of the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon is to raise funds for all three organizations, while also educating our players on the importance of investing in the community and giving to charity. The benefits and positive effects of playing youth sports, at any level, and leading an active and healthy lifestyle, have never been more evident than in today’s society.
TOP Soccer Program (through STYSA)
TOPSoccer, which stands for The Outreach Program for Soccer, is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs. The program, designed and administered by US Youth Soccer and its volunteer TOPSoccer Committee, provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to these young athletes through the game of soccer rather than an emphasis on competition. TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, "To foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition. Our goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self-esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer." Learn more about this phenomenal organization by visiting http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/programs/TOPSoccer/.
The East Austin Soccer Club (EASC)
The East Austin Soccer Club is a nonprofit organization established for the youth in our community in our under-served East Austin Area. Their sources of income are limited to player registration, fund-raising activities and sponsorships. Their expenses are all soccer related such as uniforms, officiating fees, field equipment/maintenance and coaching. EASC wants to provide the East Austin youth community the opportunity to participate in youth soccer at all levels of play, including the highest competitive levels of soccer. The EASC coaches are volunteers that dedicate their time to providing their knowledge and skills of soccer to the youth/players. This allows the players to channel their abilities during practices, while developing core values, ethics and principles. For more information, visit www.eastaustinsoccer.com.
Lonestar Champions Foundation (through Lonestar Soccer Club)
The Lonestar Champions Foundation was created with the idea that every child who desires to become a champion has the opportunity for success, not only on the field, but in life as well. Research has proven that children who participate in team sports have lower drop-out rates, lower occurrences of substance abuse, higher grades in the classroom, and higher levels of character development and self esteem than their peers who do not engage in team sports. The impact of participating in athletics is obvious and important in shaping the youth of our community.
Each year Lonestar SC awards over $140,000 from the LSC Champions Foundation to as many as 300 families so that they are able to participate in youth soccer. None of this is possible without our sponsors and donors.Thank you for your support.
What is the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon event?
This is the one time of year that we ask all of our select teams to come together to help fundraise. In order to have the biggest impact possible, we encourage participation from each player.
The fundraising period is October 1st – November 9th, followed by our 24 Soccer Marathon, November 17th – 18th. During the marathon event, Lonestar Soccer Club will play soccer continuously for 24 hours, with each LSC team participating for a one (1) hour time slot in a 24-hour-period.Our overnight group will be the ’99 and ‘00 Girls (North & South). These teams will stay from 11 pm - 7 am for the lock-in this year (details to follow). We do realize that many teams may be playing regular season games over marathon weekend and we will do our best to work around game schedules. Teams are expected to participate in the marathon unless playing and staying out of town.
Fundraising Details:
The fundraising period is October 1st – November 9th and each Lonestar Player is encouraged to raise at least $100 in donations for the event. IntroductION TO THE CHAMPIONS FOUNDATION

The Champions Foundation was established in May 2006 and every cent of the money raised provides financial aid for qualified Lonestar families. This year, 2012-2013, Lonestar has over 300 players who qualified for various amounts of financial aid totaling over $140,000. These awards are based on economic need and federal poverty guidelines, and not on talent. Financial aid is based on strict guidelines and is awarded to players irrespective of their select soccer level of play.
Lonestar Soccer Club is committed to developing young men and women into champions on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Oftentimes, however, many of these bright young men and women who possess exceptional talent and dedication to the sport are unable to afford the opportunity to play select soccer.
Approximately 10% of families in the Austin area have an annual income below the poverty level according to the 2000 census. The Champions Foundation helps families in our club afford for their children to play soccer and create an opportunity for young minds to thrive by providing financial aid for those who qualify based on economic need.
We, at Lonestar, believe that “success is where preparation meets opportunity,” and that preparation requires your help. Please help us succeed in creating champions by joining the Lonestar Champions Foundation today.
The goal for the 2012-2013 Champions Foundation campaign is to raise $125,000.00. Your donations are also fully tax deductible.
Thank you in advance for your donation and support,
