Lonestar SC in the Community!
Feb 26 2013 - LSC Staff
We would like to express a warm welcome to Louise McCann who joined the Lonestar family in the fall taking on the role of ‘Physical Education Program Coordinator’. Before joining Lonestar, Louise gained a 4 year Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education (PE) with Qualified Teaching Status from the University Of Brighton in England and then proceeded to teach in the United Kingdom for 12 years as a PE Teacher, Athletic Director, PE Advisor and Faculty Head of Creative and Performance Arts. Louise is a very experienced PE professional and we are happy to have her knowledge and experience as part of the Lonestar team.

It is important that we educate young people about the benefits of leading a healthy active lifestyle and encourage them to adopt healthy habits in their lives. As part of this role, Louise will be providing monthly updates for our soccer players including fun physical activities to do at home, nutrition advice and lifestyle tips.

Louise’s work will extend further than our Lonestar players and will take Lonestar into the local community.  Louise will work, assisted by Lonestar coaches, on our community project in local elementary schools and day care centers. They will primarily work with 4-8 year olds as these are the formative years and increasing participation and enjoyment of physical activity at these ages is critical.  The coaches will work in different schools leading fun ‘physical activation’ sessions during the school day, after school and in the evenings with a sole purpose of demonstrating how much fun keeping fit and healthy can be! The team can also provide booths at Health Days and support for school events such as Track and Field Days or Wellness Days.

If you would like our Community Team to visit your child’s school, please contact Louise by email on lmccann@lonestar-sc.com or phone 512-899-1049 and she will be happy to book this for you!

Lonestar SC Girls Showcase Recap
Feb 19 2013 - LSC Staff
Earlier this month, Lonestar hosted another fantastic showcase event for the girl’s program, following on from a very successful boys program showcase over the Thanksgiving weekend. The showcase brought in ninety four college coaches from seventy five different schools. The weekend began Friday evening with a social for the coaches. College coaches came and sat down with the Lonestar staff to go over schedules and talk about individual players. On Saturday and Sunday, over 70 teams competed on 9 fields at Town and Country Fields, and our thanks go to T&C Optimist as it is a great venue to host a Showcase with the fields all closely connected. This allows the college coaches to watch multiple games in one time slot which gives maximum exposure to players. Also, despite the wet and cold, hundreds of people turned out to watch UT Women V’s HBU on Saturday night… with five LSC Alumni on show, the game ended in a 1-0 victory for UT. The feedback from clubs, college coaches, and from players/parents has been great!  Most stating the showcase was a first class event!  We would like to thank players, coaches, volunteers and families for the hard work and support.

A Truly Sad Day for Lonestar SC and Austin Soccer
Jan 26 2013 - LSC Staff
photo Lonestar SC is very saddened to report that one of our Lonestar family, Murray Hanson, has passed away. Preliminary indications are that Murray died from a heart condition that he had dealt with for several years. Lonestar SC will communicate service information when available. The Lonestar SC family extends our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Murray's family and many close friends.

A proud native of Canada, Murray played for the Youth National Team, as well as SIU-Edwardsville and the University of Tulsa.  Professionally he played for the Tulsa Ambush of the National Professional Soccer League and semi-professionally for the Tulsa Roughnecks of the US-ISL. Murray was one of Lonestar SC’s longest serving coaches who coached hundreds, if not thousands, of young soccer players at all levels of the game, right here in Austin. He will be missed, and remembered fondly, by everyone at Lonestar SC and in the Austin Soccer Community.

We invite you to share your memories and photos of Murray with us.  CLICK HERE
