Coaches Corner | Hannah Devine
Starting this season off strong - it's a mindset, an intention you can set for yourself right now. Every time you step onto the field you have the opportunity to start anew, whether it's with this pass, this touch or this thought. Coach Hannah provides some insight from her experience as she played club with Lonestar and then went on to compete at the collegiate level with Texas Tech University:
"In order to be great at something, you have to be different from everyone else around you. I’ve always been told that you have to make sacrifices if you want to be a great college player or even just a great player in general. Some of these sacrifices included not staying out late, not partying, and extra training sessions and fitness. If you want to be great, you can’t see doing these things as a “sacrifice”, but as a means of becoming the best at what you love to do.
If you want to be the best, then you have to act like it. Do the extra work and don’t be afraid to stand out. Every training session and every sprint is a chance to get better. Don’t waste them. Something I struggled with in club soccer was the fact that I always trained hard, tackled hard, and ran as hard as possible. My teammates would always say, “Hannah, it’s just practice. Calm down.” Remember, you have to train the way you play. Don’t play down to anyone else’s level because they can’t hang with you. Stand out. Be different. Be the best you."
Best of luck to all our Select teams playing games this opening weekend of league play!
