While growing up here in Austin, Tara played for Bowie High School and the Austin United Capitals, which would later become part of Lonestar SC. She went on to start for the University of Oklahoma for two seasons before transferring and starting for the University of Nebraska for her remaining two seasons of eligibility. While in the Big 12 Conference, she set records at both schools and won several Big 12 Player of the Week and Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades, as well as two preseason tournament Defensive MVP honors. Upon graduating, Tara received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology and was called up to play for the WPS team the Western New York Flash in 2011, and later the Boston Breakers in the same season. During the summer of 2012, she played in the 1. Deild Kvenna in Iceland for Íþróttafélagið Höttur. In 2013, she played for the Houston Aces of the WPSL, who made it to the National Championship before they saw their first loss of the season. In 2014, she continued her playing career in Spain playing for C.A. Cirbonero- La Nava before returning to Iceland to help Höttur to a third place finish on the season with only two losses. Höttur also sent her on loan for trial with Atlético de Madrid Feminas in June 2014. She spent her last season in Iceland again as she played for KR Reykjavík in the Pepsi league in 2015.
Tara holds a USSF E License, Tara holds a USSF E License, NSCAA Goalkeeping 1 & 2 Licenses and has coached since 2011, with experience working under the titles of Head Coach, GK Coach, Goalkeeping Director and Girls Director for Challenge-Aggieland and Lonestar Soccer Club. She has also coached and evaluated both boy and girl goalkeepers for the South Texas Olympic Development Program, and is the current acting Goalkeeper Coach for the South Texas U.S. Market Training Center.
