2. Prepare Your List

There are a wide range of factors to consider when creating your initial list of potential colleges. Just a few include:

- Academics / Programs Offered

- Athletics

- Cost / Financial Aid

- Location

- Size / Student to Teacher Ratio

Because there are so many aspects of college life to consider, the earlier you begin your research, the better equipped you’ll be to make a decision that’s right for you. One of the best ways to begin is to simply brainstorm about what factors are most important to you and what your ideal college experience looks like.

Once you have a picture of your ideal college life in mind, begin to research schools that you think can meet your needs. Take the time to learn about each of these schools and assess how compatible you may be as a student athlete at each of them. As time goes on and you continue to assess your options, the list will naturally shrink as your ambitions become more apparent.

Be sure not to miss out on one other important factor in your decision: the coach. This is someone who will play a huge part in your life over the course of your college career and with that in mind, it's important that the coach's style fits with yours. To get a feel for the coach's style, try speaking to current and former players or even attend one of their games.

It is not uncommon to feel confused and unsure of where to go and what to study, or if you want to commit to playing collegiate soccer. Just remember that your parents, coaches and Lonestar College Placement Director are all there to help support you in making the right decision for you!
