October 12, 2023 – Lonestar Soccer Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dave “Smitty” Smith as the Director of Girls National Program. In this role, Smitty will oversee the Girls Academy program, the Lonestar Soccer Club Girls College Placement Program, and the U23 Women’s program.
With an impressive 34 years of coaching experience within just three clubs, namely the Houston Texans, Challenge, and Lonestar Soccer Club, Smitty brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new position. His extensive background as a US National Team coach is a testament to his remarkable achievements in the field of soccer.
Smitty’s notable accomplishments include serving as the head coach of the U17 U.S. National Team, as well as being the assistant coach to the U19 U.S. National Team who emerged victorious in the 2002 U19 Women’s World Cup. In addition, Smitty has also been a staff coach at numerous U20 and U14 camps.
Recognized for his outstanding contributions to youth coaching, Smitty was honored as the National Youth Coach of the Year. His dedication and passion earned him the opportunity to serve as the head coach for Region III O.D.P.
Furthermore, Smitty’s remarkable career includes his role as the head coach of the Adidas Elite Soccer Program where he was succeeded by Pia Sundhage, the former head coach of the US Women’s National Team.
“I am absolutely thrilled to rejoin Lonestar Soccer Club and take on the role of Director of Girls National Program,” said Smitty. “I am excited to work with such talented players and a dedicated coaching staff. Together, we will continue to elevate the level of girls’ soccer and create a positive impact within the club and the community.”
