LSC RETURNS TO SAN ANTONIO, AFFILIATES WITH SAFC

Lonestar Soccer Club is excited to announce their affiliation with the reigning USL Champions San Antonio FC!

Beginning in the upcoming 2023-24 year, the collaboration between Lonestar and the professional SAFC organization represents an exciting new chapter in youth soccer and presents additional development opportunities for players from all over Central Texas, including San Antonio, Austin, and the I-35 corridor.

The affiliation between two of the most successful clubs in Central Texas will ensure a pathway exists for boys and girls from U4-U19 in the Recreational, Junior Academy, Select, and Elite programs. The opportunity to play for Lonestar at the youth level at the STAR Soccer Complex, while the successful professional SAFC first team continues to compete at the adjacent state-of-the-art Toyota Stadium, presents an exciting evolution for the culture of soccer in San Antonio.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with San Antonio FC and the USL Championship to bring even more exciting soccer opportunities to the San Antonio area. This affiliation will not only provide high-level soccer for our community, but will also create new development pathways for players, coaches, and staff in the region. We look forward to all the new experiences and opportunities that this affiliation will bring.”

  • Allen Fincher, Executive Director of Business, Lonestar Soccer Club.

“We are delighted to collaborate with a nationally respected club like Lonestar SC for the purposes expanding the quality and scope of youth soccer programming for girls and boys at all levels at STAR Soccer Complex. Our two clubs share a common philosophy on how to effectively grow the sport in Central Texas, and we look forward to this exciting new chapter. We are grateful to the LSC leadership team and board of directors for their confidence in this project.”

  • Tim Holt, VP & SAFC Managing Director, Spurs Sports & Entertainment

“We are extremely excited about the new affiliation with San Antonio FC. We have been working towards this for a long time and we will now provide a pathway for all levels of players. Our like-minded staff and connections with the professional San Antonio FC organization will create a great opportunity for youth players across Central Texas. Although recent challenges slowed progress, we are excited for this to reach its fruition and look to provide the best possible environment for young players to develop”

  • Brian Monaghan, Executive Director of Select Soccer

“As we embark upon the next phase of the SAFC Pro Academy’s growth and performance, we are thrilled to be able to collaborate with Lonestar SC to support us in terms of club operations and beyond. The model and ambition of our Pro Academy to provide a true local player pathway to professional soccer remains unchanged, yet this affiliation will allow us to be able to launch exciting new initiatives for local players using our combined resources. We look forward to the exchange of ideas and mutual learning that will be a major part of this relationship.”

  • Juan LaMadrid, SAFC USL Assistant Coach/Pro-Academy Head Coach

For players at the elite level, the affiliation provides a clear professional pathway to the USL program and unparalleled benefits including college placement, tournaments, and showcase events through Lonestar SC. The existing SAFC Pro Academy teams and staff will field their teams in the ECNL Boys program, and will be supported by Lonestar ECRL teams in the U13-U19 age groups. The introduction of SAFC into the ECNL and ECRL in collaboration with Lonestar SC further strengthens the league, competition level, and opportunities for youth players across Central Texas. The affiliation also creates the unique opportunity for possible future endeavors across the USL ecosystem, the potential of USL League 2, and USL-W as the parties explore additional pre-professional development opportunities for boys and girls players.

With the allocation of a second Lonestar Girls Academy team into the Girls Academy League for the upcoming year, new opportunities are also created for girls in the San Antonio area wishing to play at a higher level. Interested players not currently part of Lonestar Soccer Club born between 2011 and 2005 are encouraged to register for tryouts and attend the upcoming player ID sessions which you can register for by clicking here.
