LSC USL-W Falls Short Against Albion

On the morning of Saturday June 8th, our USL-W team woke up early to give a warm welcome to the young girls of Lonestar Soccer Club for a Girls Only Clinic. The young LSC players attended the clinic to enjoy a day of skill-building and fun but were surprised by our ladies who came to share their personal stories, discuss their career challenges, and offer advice on balancing sports with other aspects of life. The ladies left a positive impact on the young athletes with their final speech, encouraging the girls to continue their soccer journey with passion and inviting the Clinic’s participants to attend next weekend’s game where they would be recognized for their hard work and dedication. After that, they regrouped to take a bus with Houston as their destination.

In a highly anticipated showdown between Lonestar USL-W and Albion, expectations were high as both teams geared up for an intense battle on the pitch. However, a lackluster start Lonestar complicated the rest of the game and ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat in their recent encounter in Houston this past Saturday.

From the opening whistle, it was evident that both sides were evenly matched, with Lonestar showcasing their skill and determination in the early stages of the game and Albion taking a more precautionary approach. The AHFC Royals scored first in the 20th minute, with their forward slipping the ball past Lonestar’s goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead.

LSC quickly responded, just five minutes later, midfielder Helen Alormenu precisely sent a through ball to Zara Dominguez, who finished with a clean shot to level the score at 1-1. The Albion Royals regained their lead in the 35th minute through a set piece. The ball was curled into the box, and the Royals pounced on the rebound putting the ball into the net, making it 2-1. Nonetheless, just before halftime, the Royals extended their lead, which proved to be a massive blow for our ladies.

The second half saw Lonestar come out determined to claw their way back into the match. Despite facing a deficit, they refused to back down, launching wave after wave of attacks in search of a breakthrough. Their efforts were commendable, as they created several scoring opportunities and tested Albion’s defense relentlessly.
However, luck was not on Lonestar’s side, as they found themselves short time and again by the exceptional performance of Albion’s goalkeeper. Her acrobatic saves and commanding presence between the posts denied Lonestar any chance of a comeback, frustrating their efforts to narrow the deficit.

In the end, despite their valiant efforts, it proved to be a tough lesson for Lonestar, who now must regroup, analyze their performance, and learn from their mistakes as they continue their journey in the USL-W season. After the match, Lonestar’s coach Edgar Anzaldo praised the team’s effort. “We showed great character and fought hard throughout the game. The first half was challenging, and we will work on our mistakes. I’m proud of how the team played in the second half, and we’ll come back stronger.”

Lonestar Soccer Club will return home for their next match, aiming to bounce back from this defeat. They will be back at Round Rock multipurpose complex this Saturday, June 15th at 7 PM against a very good Challenge United side.
