Why P.L.A.Y. Exists at Lonestar
P.L.A.Y., (Protecting the Lives of All Youth) is Lonestar Soccer Club’s financial aid program that helps cover player registration fees for families who need financial help to play youth soccer. It’s rooted in our belief that every kid deserves a shot at the game regardless of socioeconomic status.
On a team, kids build confidence, make lifelong friends, and grow ambitious beliefs about who they can be and what they can accomplish. We believe costs shouldn’t be the reason a kid misses out on that.
Kids who play team sports –
- Graduate at a 15% higher rate than non-athletes in Austin-area schools (UT Austin Department of Kinesiology)
- Are 8x more likely to still be active at age 24 (Project Play)
- Report 22% lower rates of anxiety and depression than their peers in Central Texas (UT Dell Medical School)
Lonestar Soccer Club is a locally grown, nationally recognized club serving about 12,000 players ages 4 to 19 across Austin, San Antonio, and Central Texas. Since forming in 2004 through the merger of several local clubs, Lonestar has grown to offer every level of play including Recreational, Jr. Academy, Select, National, and Pre-Professional.
Just two years later, in 2006, we started awarding financial aid to our families because we saw how many members of our community needed help to keep their kids on the field. P.L.A.Y. is our commitment to meet every family where they are, at every level of play.
P.L.A.Y. Track Record & Impact
We award financial aid at every level, from Recreational to National, through a need-based, application process Since 2006, P.L.A.Y. has awarded $5.8 million in financial aid to 8,750 players, and each recipient has a story.
Ryan Clanton played for Lonestar for 13 years, started in our Jr. Academy program and progressing to our National program. He received financial aid, and today he plays Division 1 soccer at SMU.

We Need Your Help | 2026 P.L.A.Y. Campaign
Demand for financial aid keeps growing, and our 2026 P.L.A.Y. Fundraising Campaign, presented by Almighty Rentals, is our effort to meet more families where they are. From September 27 through November 15, we’re aiming to raise $150,000 through a club-wide, peer-to-peer fundraising campaign to help families stay in the game.
Funds raised go directly to our financial aid program.
